Keep dirty IPA out of drains and ordinary household rubbish. Formlabs' used IPA guidance directs users to the solvent SDS and their local disposal service. Filtering visible solids does not establish that the remaining liquid is suitable for a drain. Checked 25 October 2026.

Arrange the route first

  1. Keep the container closed, labelled and compatible with the contents, following the solvent SDS.
  2. Keep the resin and solvent product names and their SDS documents together.
  3. Find your council and ask specifically about household resin-contaminated isopropyl alcohol. State the quantity and whether other cleaning liquids have been mixed in.
  4. Confirm the receiving location, booking rules, container requirements and quantity limits before travelling. Do not assume every recycling centre accepts it.
  5. Follow the service's transport and handover instructions.

Questions worth asking

  • Is this accepted as household hazardous waste?
  • Does it need a booked collection rather than a recycling-centre visit?
  • What should happen to contaminated filters, gloves and absorbent materials?
  • Are there separate arrangements for waste from selling prints or another business?

Reuse is different from disposal

A maker may describe a recovery process for its own resin and equipment. Follow the exact instructions and the SDS; clearer liquid can still contain dissolved material. This guide does not recommend evaporating solvent as a disposal method.

GOV.UK's hazardous-waste overview concerns businesses in England and links to the other UK nations. Household services and rules can differ. We do not give a universal UK waste classification. For resin solids and containers, read leftover resin and failed prints.
